Dining at Sullivan's Metropolitan Grill in Anderson, SC was a combination of good and not-so-good experiences. The restaurant had a spacious and open feel, with furniture that gave the place a stylish touch. However, the lighting was a bit dim,
we went at night, and could use some improvement for a brighter atmosphere. The service was one of the highlights of the evening, with our server Jeff being top-notch. He was attentive and knowledgeable, sharing his personal experiences with the menu items and providing great advice.
The Duck Fries appetizer was quite delicious, with a chipotle mascarpone sauce that was rich and flavorful. However, the sauce might be a bit spicy for some diners. The hand-cut fries were not as fresh as expected and lacked the desired crispiness.
The Lobster Bisque soup was a standout dish, with an excellent balance between sweet and savory flavors. The velvety smooth texture and rich flavor of the soup was a true delight, though incorporating chunks of tender lobster meat would have elevated the dish to new heights. Overall, a tasty experience that left me wanting more The Butcher Steak entrée, ordered medium well with shiitake soy beurre blanc sauce on
the side, was a bit of a disappointment. The steak arrived medium rare with the sauce already on it, not on the side as requested. The kitchen attempted to rectify the situation, but the steak came back overcooked and with a burnt crust. Despite this, the meat was tender and the sauce improved the overall flavor of the dish. The double mashed potatoes were hot, as if they were reheated, and were too hot to eat when the meal arrived.
The chocolate chip cheesecake dessert was a great end to the meal. It had the right balance of sweet and tangy, with a smooth and creamy texture that was delicious. Overall, Sullivan's Metropolitan Grill has potential, with a stylish ambiance and excellent service, but some improvements to the lighting and menu execution could take it to the next level.
